A trained sharpshooter capable of striking down targets from a fair distance with their anti-Chronite Positron sniper rifle. They are an effective backline unit found in the Barracks, ready to counter Chronite Tanks and more.
All snipers are equipped with Positron sniper rifles, a similar technology found in use by the Scouts, although particularly outfitted for ground operations against mobile armor such as Chronite Tanks and Gröditz. Due to how specified their function is, they do not perform as well against air units, but ensures snipers aren't completely defenseless against them.
Snipers often engage first against most other units, beating Marines, Chronite Tanks, A25-Romans, Scouts, and Gröditz in range, as examples of early and mid-game units they outrange. This allows snipers to shut down advances before the opposition can hit them, and against Chronite Tanks, can stop their assault quite fast.
Snipers specialize against Chronite armored units, dealing significant damage to them otherwise reduced for Kinetic and Infantry weaponry used against them. This allows them to compete against Chronite Tanks, Gröditz, and Sakata Spiders respectively, where other ground units may find less success against them.
Snipers are capable of ground-to-air engagements, but they don't excel as much as their Marine counterparts. Snipers are built for ground engagements primarily and can struggle on their own against any aerial threats, including cheap and abundant Scouts.
Snipers are a poor choice for leading advances without frontal protection by other units. Most hard-hitting units will make short work of them with how low Sniper health is compared to other units, as well as only having Light armor. They are also vulnerable to rushing Chronite Tanks that will fire into their position and decimate whole Sniper groups.
By using strong defensive units like Chronite Tanks, you can form a defensive line with Sniper backline support to advance along the battlefield. The Snipers will provide supportive fire against incoming opposing units while the Chronite Tanks protect against any lethal shots directed their way. Be mindful of rushing units that might fire into your backline, and be aware of how close enemy units need to be for your Snipers to target them.
Marines with their respectable anti-air rockets and Snipers with their proficient ground coverage and damage output can make a dangerous unit duo to handle. Even better, Spec Ops. Teams are equipped with Snipers and the stronger S-Marines upon deployment, demonstrating this synergy with how dangerous a few advancing teams can be.
